Gifted young pianists’ triumph at the Roma International Piano Competition,2023

The 32nd Roma International Piano Competition commenced last Friday, with the younger international piano students competing in the Young Pianist section. This esteemed two-week classical music event is held at Rome's historic Cloister dei Genovesi, which dates back to the 15th century, situated in the centre of Trastevere.

The contest takes place from November 3rd to November 16th, with a prize-giving ceremony and gala performance serving as its conclusion. Ninety-Nine entrants from 19 countries compete in the 5 categories of excellence in piano performance: Young Pianist, Emerging Pianist, 4 Hands Duo,2 Pianos Duo and Chopin Prize.

This year Joel Madaliński-Artur, a young 17 yrs old German of Angolan descent, won the Absolute First Prize in the Young pianist section on the 4th of November. 

The Emerging Pianist category commenced on Saturday afternoon and the winners were announced on the 6th of November. The Absolute First Prize in the Emerging Pianist section was won by 18yrs old Italian, Massimo Urban.

The maestro Marcella Crudeli founded the Roma International Piano Competition through the Associazione Culturale "Fryderyk Chopin" in 1989. The Cuomo Foundation has been the main sponsor of this significant and essential international showcase for up-and-coming young pianists since 2004.
