Dr Cataldo, guest speaker at international medical conference in Venice

Professor Dr Daniel Cataldo, a renowned specialist in facial reconstructive surgery, was a featured speaker at the international medical conference « Dermatology in Venice » which took place from October 27 to 29 at the Hotel NH, Laguna Palace in Venice.
Dr Cataldo’s presentation, « Cancrum oris, my personal experience in Niger” , detailed his several experiences with Noma, a disfiguring disease that is primarily brought on by malnutrition.

Dr Cataldo has spent a large portion of his professional career performing corrective medical treatments on humanitarian missions, mainly in Niger.

The Cuomo Foundation has agreed to fund and publicise the recent distribution of limited special edition copies of « Facial Reconstructive Surgery » to prestigious medical institutions and universities across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America as a way of supporting the important work that Dr Cataldo performs.

Attached is an abbreviated version of an email recently received by the Foundation from Professor Roni P. Dodiuk-Gad, MD, pictured here with Dr. Daniel Cataldo at the Venice conference, October 2022.

Dear Ms. Maria Elena Cuomo,

My name is Roni, Professor Roni P. Dodiuk-Gad and I am a Professor of Dermatology in both the faculties of medicine in the Technion Israel and the University of Toronto in Canada.

I was honoured to meet Professor Daniel Cataldo in a conference in Venice a few days ago.

I’m writing this email to thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting the publication of his book – Facial reconstructive Surgery in humanitarian missions.

This book is a fabulous manifestation of the power of medicine, the responsibility physicians can embrace and the strength of humanity.
I truly think that each medical student worldwide needs to read this book and be inspired to seek his path in turning his profession into a humanitarian mission.

There is so much suffering in the world- and we are all so blessed- but we all tend to forget it.

Daniel’s work, as vividly demonstrated in this book, is a wakeup call for all of us to appreciate the life we have and to remember that with great power comes great responsibility.

There are not enough words to express my appreciation of your support.

There is a famous Jewish idea that « whoever saves one life […] saves an entire world » (Sanhedrin 4:5). Daniel has surely done this and you have brought his story alive by creating this book and inspiring more physicians to dedicate themselves to humanitarian missions.

I hope to meet you one day and to thank you in person.
