On January 14th, 2016, Mrs Maria Elena Cuomo and Mr Francsico A. Diaz Lison visited Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to oversee the professional training programme of the future Centre Cardio-Pédiatrique Cuomo (CCPC). The centre is due for completion by mid 2017 in Dakar,Senegal.
This programme, designed for the medical and paramedical staff of the CCPC, is a pivotal part of an ambitious healthcare project. This scheme of ‘knowledge transfer’ will help the Senegalese personnel to effectively respond to the demanding medical practices required by the Centre’s activities and then eventually train other medical officers of their region, in Mali and Burkina Faso.
Later this year, three nurses, an anesthetist, cardiologist and heart surgeon will travel to Ho Chi Minh City for a period of six months to receive training from their Vietnamese colleagues. The programme will take place at the Alain Carpentier institute du Coeur, Ho Chi Minh, covering the areas of cardiology, conventional cardiology, anesthesia, cardiac surgery as well as hospital management.
This innovative project is a substantial example of a mutually beneficial “South-South” technical cooperation.
