The Centre Cardio-Pédiatrique Cuomo (CCPC) was inaugurated in Dakar, Senegal, during the French Presidential couple’s official visit to the country.
The First Lady, Brigitte Macron, along with her Senegalese counterpart, Marème Sall, cut the ribbon of this facility, built and equipped with fundings from the Monaco-based Cuomo Foundation.
The Cuomo cardio-paediatric center, a 2 200m2-technical platform, has 2 operating theatres and 2 intensive care unit to go with its hospitalisation and consultation services.
Since January 2017, 150 children have been operated in this establishment where Senegalese and international medical teams operate hand-in-hand, often with the support of the French Association La Chaîne de l’Espoir.
The center now aims to perform 500 surgeries a year, in a country where, each year, between 800 and 1,000 children are born with congenital heart disease. In the absence of adequate specialised care, 80% of them die before reaching the age of five.
Founded in 2001 in Monaco, the Cuomo Foundation, chaired by Maria Elena Cuomo, works in the fields of education, culture, social and environment.
