Today we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of Alfredo Cuomo, founder of the Cuomo Foundation. As a young top ranking Italian law student, he received the prestigious Fulbright Foreign Scholarship to study in the United States, which broadened his perspective on life and opportunities. On his return to Rome, he completed his studies and then successfully and creatively built his fortune in the international film industry.
Cultivated, passionate, interested in everything, he decided, at midlife, to dedicate a part of his fortune and himself to those who were most in needed. To achieve this aim, he established the Cuomo Foundation, in Monaco. For over 20 years, the foundation has worked primarily in the fields of education and social welfare. It is active present in India, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Cuba, Italy, France...
Its educational actions in Tamil Nadu have enabled access across all ages from primary, secondary to higher studies.
Over 5,000 children benefit daily from the schools that the foundation has built and more than 500 scholarships have been awarded to students gaining access to universities and training colleges.
In a lasting legacy to his dedication to children, the R.C Hr. Sec. School in Sendivakkam built by the foundation in 2006, was officially, legally renamed the Alfredo Cuomo Hr. Sec. School in June 2019.The school is currently attended by over 750 boys and girls including 180 boarders, housed in the purpose built separate dormitories.
This fitting 10th anniversary honor and tribute to Alfredo Cuomo was made possible by the intervention and steadfast commitment of Most Rev. Dr. A. Neethinathan and the Diocese of Chingleput.
