A musical evening will be given on 27 November 2019 at the Cloister of San Giovanni Battista dei Genovesi, Rome, in tribute to the late Mr. Alfredo Cuomo. An initiative by Maestro Marcella Crudeli and the Associazione Culturale Fryderyk Chopin she chairs, the event will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of Mr Cuomo.
Our founding President was at the origin of the partnership signed in 2004 between the Roman association and our philanthropic organization which powers the annual "Roma" international piano competition. With the foundation’s support, the annual event has grown in stature over the years to become a key event of the Roman cultural life.
Maestro Marcella Crudeli (piano) and M. Stefano Maffizzoni (flute) will interpret pieces from classical, romantic and contemporary repertoires. Their eclectic lineup features Domenico Cimarosa (1749-1801), Franz Schubert (1797-1828), Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) along with two contemporary composers collaborating with Maestro Crudeli : Sergio Calligaris and Andrea Talmelli. Parallel to the concert, a public reading will be given Angelo Angelastro, a journalist from Rai, the national public broadcasting company of Italy. Mr Angelastro will be reading passages from his book "Il bel tempo di Tripoli", a story based in Tipoli, Maestro Crudeli’s hometown.
The cultural events of the evening will also mark the launch the 29th "Roma" Competition. This edition will welcome more than 100 pianists representing 20 countries and will culminate in the Closing Concert due on December 9, 2019. All the winners of this 29th edition will be performing during this musical evening. For the first time, the event is organized at the Università Roma Tre. This year’s finalists will be backed by the "Roma Tre Orchestra”, a highly regarded ensemble which is among the very first university orchestras in Italy.
